Practical PDF guidance before you process a file
These guides explain the trade-offs behind common PDF tasks so you can choose the right tool and review the output with realistic expectations.
Compression & file size
Learn why some PDFs shrink dramatically while others barely change, and how to balance size against readable output. Start with Compress PDF without losing too much quality.
Conversion choices
PDF conversion can trade structure for appearance. Read PDF to Word: layout vs editable text and JPG vs PNG for PDF pages before choosing a format.
Scans, OCR & searchable text
If a page looks like text but cannot be searched or copied, it may be a scan. The scanned vs searchable PDF guide explains when OCR helps and what can reduce recognition accuracy.
Page organization
Merge, split, extract, delete, rotate, and reorder operations solve different page-management problems. The PDF page organization guide helps you make the smallest necessary change.
PDF passwords
Encryption is useful when applied deliberately. Read Password-protect and unlock PDFs safely for practical limits and authorized-use guidance.
Browser privacy & local processing
Understand what local browser processing means, which ordinary network requests can still occur, and what to check before selecting a sensitive document. Read the browser-based PDF privacy guide.
Fidelity vs. editability
Learn why a visually faithful Word, Excel, or PowerPoint conversion can be less editable—and why editable output can reflow. Read the conversion trade-off guide.
Troubleshooting large or difficult files
Browser memory, document length, scans, encryption, and complex Office features can all affect a conversion. Read the PDF troubleshooting guide.
Passwords, watermarks & signatures
These features solve different security and document-status problems. Learn what each one can—and cannot—do. Read the PDF security basics guide.
Why the guides exist
A file tool can perform an operation, but the button alone cannot explain every tradeoff. These guides cover the decisions around the operation: when JPG is more practical than PNG, why a scan behaves differently from a searchable PDF, why a smaller file can look softer, how browser memory affects large documents, and why editable conversions can differ from the fixed PDF layout.
The articles are intended to help users choose a workflow before processing a document and to review the result afterward. They avoid promising perfect conversion or universal compatibility because real documents can contain fonts, forms, scans, signatures, encryption, embedded objects, and unusual layouts.
Start with the question you actually have
If the problem is file size, begin with the compression guide. If the document is a scan, read the searchable-PDF guide. If you are moving between PDF and Office formats, read about fidelity versus editability. For password, watermark, and signature questions, use the security guides. When a large file causes a browser error, the troubleshooting guide explains why page count alone does not predict memory use.
