What is pdf to png?

PDF-to-PNG conversion renders each PDF page as a PNG image. PNG uses lossless compression, making it well suited to screenshots, diagrams, interface documents, and pages with sharp edges.

How to use PDF to PNG

  2. 2

    Select 96, 150, or 200 DPI.

Why use this tool?

A PNG page can be inserted into design tools, slide decks, websites, and image workflows that do not work directly with PDFs. Lossless encoding helps preserve crisp line art and text at the selected render resolution.

How PDFora works

After the PDF is selected, each requested page is rendered to PNG in the browser and the image files are prepared for download on your device. Document contents are not sent to PDFora servers.

Common ways to use PDF to PNG

  • Export diagrams and interface mockups
  • Create crisp page previews
  • Use PDF content in PNG-only workflows
  • Capture document pages as lossless raster images

Tips for better results

  • Choose 96 DPI for compact previews.
  • Choose 150 DPI for most screen use.
  • Choose 200 DPI when smaller text needs more detail.
  • For photo-heavy pages, JPG may produce significantly smaller output files.

Frequently asked questions

Why can PNG files be larger than JPG?

PNG is lossless and often keeps more image data, especially for photo-heavy pages.

Will every PDF page be converted?

Yes. Each page is rendered into the ZIP archive.

Does the PNG keep selectable PDF text?

No. The page becomes a raster image, so selectable text and interactive PDF features are not retained.

Can I convert an encrypted PDF?

Password-protected PDFs are not supported in this version.

PNG favors crisp edges over small file size

PNG uses lossless compression, which is useful for diagrams, screenshots, line art, text-heavy pages, and graphics where sharp edges matter. A photographic page can be much larger as PNG than as JPG, so the best format depends on the content and how the image will be used.

Like other page-to-image conversions, PNG captures the rendered appearance. Searchable text becomes pixels, and interactive PDF features do not carry into the image. If the purpose is to preserve editability rather than appearance, a Word or other document conversion may be more appropriate.

Use resolution intentionally

Higher resolution makes small details easier to inspect but increases memory use and output size. For large PDFs, convert a representative page first and check the result before processing many pages at the highest available resolution.
